Know Your BBs & CCs

If you have even the slightest interest in beauty, or have picked-up a glossy mag within the last few months you’ll more than likely have come across this newish beauty phenomenon:  BB creams, and now CC creams too, and I hear that DD creams are not far around the corner too.

So, if you haven’t got a clue what a BB cream is, yet alone a CC, then I’m here to enlighten you.

BB Creams

BB stands for Beauty or Blemish Balm and have been a beauty staple in Asia for many years. BB creams promise to reduce redness, even out skin tone, camouflage pores and wrinkles, moisturise and offer anti-aging benefits.  Many BBs on the market also contain an SPF.  BB creams tend to be lighter than foundation, but heavier than most tinted moisturisers.  BBs promise to be a primer, a tinted moisturised and a sunscreen; basically an all-in-one product.  BBs are quite concentrated, so a small pea-like amount goes a long way.

Which BB to choose?

I’ve tried a few over the last year or so and I’ve been really pleased with these three:

Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 35

Dior Diorskin BB Creme

Dr Brandt BB Cream with signature Flexitone

CC Creams

CC stands for Colour Correcting and have been designed to address skin issues such as redness and/or sallowness.  CC creams are generally lighter in texture than a BB cream and provide a lighter coverage.  CC creams are more corrective than their BB cousins.  A CC cream will address more existing issues like age spots, acne scarring etc.

I haven’t tried any CC creams yet, but I have my eye on testing these two – I’ll let you know my verdict in a few months.

Nip & Fab CC Cream SPF 30

Supergoop SPF 35 Daily Correct CC Cream

Are you a fan of BB and CC creams?  If so, which one do you use?

With much love

  1. I’m a fan of BB Creams…specifically Smashbox. I’ve never tried any of the CC creams before but i’m sure one of these days sooner or later I will 🙂

  2. Hey Em – thanks for enlightening me! I had never heard of BB’s or CC’s but it’s exactly what I’m looking for. I need something with a high SPF and which ideally covers up some of the sun damage marks on my face. Do you know if any are available in Bangers??

    • I’ve never bought them here, but you might be able to get the Clinique CC or the Estee Lauder one from here? Clinique had a decent counter at Lifestyle on the Inner Ring Road, and there’s the Estee store in UB City. If I see one on my travels today I’ll let you know xo

  3. I’m so glad I have you to educate me on all things beauty – I have never heard of BB or CC creams!

  4. Bob Howells says:

Very interesting – not many men care for their skin in the same way that many women do?

  5. My paetner and I absolutely loce your blog annd find almost all of your post’s to be exactly I’m looking for.

can you offer guest writers to write content available for
you? I wouldn’t mind composing a post or elaborating on some off the subjects you write concerning here.
